About the Restaurant

Since its soft opening in 2008, Akamaru Restaurant prides itself by serving their customer’s gourmet food at a reasonable price. Come on in and try a variety of different types of sushi and rolls as Tempura, bento boxes and other tasty delights. Choose from a variety of custom rolls and favorites such as the Flying Tiger, the Spicy and Melting roll, and the Triple Shrimp roll.

As you enter, the chefs and waitress’s greet you warmly to make you feel that you are dining at home than your usual restaurant. Soft Japanese music combined with the tranquil sounds of a waterfall creates a relaxing atmosphere that is enjoyable to any paying customer. Enjoy our bar with 20 different kinds of cold sake as well hot sake, foreign and domestic beers.


Owner and Sushi Chef Mr. Sano

At 63 years old, Sano has been making sushi for 40 years. His skills and experience has allowed him to make 35 different types of sushi which include sashimi, hand roll and customer specialties. Because of his skill, he was chosen for 2nd place for Visalia’s “Taste of Downtown” Award in 2008.

Born in Japan, he as opened and owned a restaurant for seven years before moving to Las Angeles in the early 1970’s. He then owned two more restaurants, one in Westwood and another at Ventura Boulevard. After seventeen years, he moved to Fresno where he operated two more restaurants for seventeen years. Then in 2008, he opened Akamaru’s which translated in English as red circle .
